AURORA
Aurora, originally named Fletcher, began as a four square mile town. In 1907, with a population of approximately 300, citizens voted to change the name to Aurora. Since the early 1980's, Aurora's land area has more than doubled. The original four mile square town has expanded to 140 square miles, making it the largest city in the state by area. With approximately 265,000 people, it is the state's third largest in population. Denver International Airport is due north of Aurora and within 30 minutes of all residential areas.
Aurora offers comfortable suburban living, yet it also offers all the advantages of living in a major city. There are hundreds of restaurants featuring cuisine from all around the world. Shopping is always convenient with the many neighborhood shopping centers and supermarkets.
Buckley Air Force Base, a large military installation in Aurora, continues to add new facilities to its classified operations. Buckley handles satellite monitoring and missile warning systems. The base is an outstanding landmark with its large "golf ball" coverings of satellite and radar dishes.
Aurora has an impressive array of mixed housing, from care-free townhome, patio home, and condominium living, to apartment life complete with stunning views of the Front Range, to single family homes. Housing is available for just about any kind of lifestyle with a full spectrum of price ranges.
Aurora residents enjoy easy access to any of Denver's major highways via I-225 and E-470. Aurorans can beat the summer heat at either of the regions two largest public playgrounds. Cherry Creek and Aurora Reservoirs provide boating, sailing, fishing, swimming, sunbathing, and other outdoor activities. In addition to golf courses, the city offers 3,000 acres of park land and prides itself on a large park and recreation department with soccer and softball fields, playgrounds, and much more.
